Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent on
The Daily Show on Comedy Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny
Chieng International Student which was first shown on ABC (Australia) as well
as Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was the son of a Malaysian Chinese
family. He was born in Johor Bahru. Chieng was born in Singapore as well as the
United States. He lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, from 1989 until 1994.
Chieng appeared in an annual comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013
along with Trevor Noah. Chieng was invited to audition for The Daily Show's
correspondent position two years after. Chieng was named one of the 10 Comics
to watch by Variety in July 2016. In October of 2016, Chieng appeared as a
guest on The Daily Show to respond to an Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many
believed was racist. Chieng made expletive-laden comments concerning the
segment of the conservative network Fox News. He also returned to the city's
Chinatown. Watters had mocked the people living there and gave respectful
interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video was featured in
Slate as well as the Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was an
Singapore Sea Scout. Chieng hasn't managed to acquire citizenship or permanent
residence status in Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. Chieng
made the joke that he was negative towards dogs during the 2018 Daily Show.
However Chieng later admitted that he's "100 percent not scared of
dogs" in an interview.
